This event is postponed until the 2022 Bergen International Festival.
World premiere inspired by the corona pandemic.
The Danish Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir was founded by conductor and musical director Mogens Dahl in 2005. Today, the choir has developed into a unique international choir project based on the Nordic a cappella tradition. Focusing on Nordic and romantic music, the ensemble has created a number of innovative projects. The chamber choir's primary goal is to influence the Nordic countries' vocal music agenda, and several Nordic composers have written new pieces for the ensemble.
The concert offers, among other things, a world premiere of a piece by festival composer Missy Mazzoli. The piece Year of our Burning is a response to the corona pandemic. Through the music and the choir's movements on stage, the piece will portray the relationship between people during this special year.
There will also be religious choir music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Arvo Pärt. After the intermission, the choir will perform Alfred Schnittke's Requiem with the Bergen-based contemporary orchestra BIT20 Ensemble. The orchestra has played at festivals and arenas in Europe and the rest of the world. Still, it has maintained its strong roots in Bergen, and has in recent years, among other things, performed concerts with a repertoire by the Bergen International Festival composers.
This event has been postponed and will not take place during the 2021 Festival as previously announced. By launching performances and artists as they are confirmed, the Festival would like to draw attention to the work our wonderful artists do, though the pandemic may cause numerous changes to the final festival programme.
Updated details for the event will be announced in connection with the programme release for the 2022 Bergen International Festival.
