In 2018, Festspillkollektivet brought Bergen International Festival to several different meeting places. 

Children and young people

  • Theatre production Romeo og Julie visited young people at Hyssingen and Fellesverket (Red Cross).

  • The Great Journey visited children at Bamsehiet (the Church City Mission) and Ny-Krohnborg school.

  • Early years specialist composer Kling klang visited infants at the Church City Mission's open nursery at Slettebakken and the Red Cross Crisis Centre. Kling klang also visited Tveiterås school for children with special educational needs.

  • Heidi Marie Vestrheim brought music and storytelling to young patients at Haukeland University Hospital's Children and Young People's Unit.

  • Older adults

  • Beatrice Allegranti Dance Theatre engaged residents at two specialist dementia centres at the Red Cross and Fyllingsdalen care homes with participatory dance workshops.

  • Catharine Chen (violinist) and Jie Zhang (pianist) performed at Hordnestunet, Enkers and Lyngbøtunet care homes.

Other

  • In November, jazz trio, Building Instrument, are performing in Robin Hood House for financially and socially disadvantaged people and at Vardesenteret, Haukeland, for those affected by cancer.

  • Heidi Marie Vestrheim performed for people dependent on drugs and alcohol at Hallvardstuen.

  • Miss Tati returned to Bergen Prison as part of a larger Festival Collective project where prisoners produced and performed in a one day festival.

Artist residencies

Festspillkollektivet invites creative leaders to collaborate with communities on a variety of ongoing cultural projects in Artist Residencies.

Festspillene i Bergen Fengsel (Bergen Prison International Festival)

Prisoners in Bergen Prison collaborated with local musicians to direct, produce and perform in a one day festival for the prison community.

Songs and Adventure

Throughout 2018, choir leader Ruth Nonseid and artist Katrine Meisfjord are collaborating on a singing and storytelling project with refugees and immigrants as part of a networking and integration initiative together with Papillon – a meeting place for ethnic minority girls and women.

The Freedom Room: A Symposium on Socially Engaged Arts

The Festival Collective co-produced a symposium together with four universities in Western Norway: KMD, UiB, UiS and HVL.
