Relive the closing concert from 2024.
The monumental performance of Mahler's 8th has been shown in cinemas across the country. It was the first time Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir presented a concert in cinemas with top sound and video quality. The film is now available on NRK – the Norwegian public broadcaster.
Edward Gardner conducted Mahler’s monumental Eighth Symphony as his last concert in the role of Chief Conductor for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, where he had worked since 2015. The farewell concert was also the Closing concert of the 2024 Festival.
Mahler's 8th is one of the greatest orchestral and choral works in the classical repertoire and is rarely performed. The work has been called the ‘Symphony of a Thousand’, and requires eight soloists and several choirs, in addition to the orchestra.
NRK’s critic called the concert a heavenly finale, while Aftenposten wrote that the choral singing was breathtaking.
