Festival square

Family

Duration:

24 h

Swim with dolphins, get an A or live in peace? What do you want to do before you die?

When the global art project Before I Die guested the Bergen International Festival last year, people were quick to respond. At the Festival square, they picked up a piece of chalk and shared exactly what they wanted to do in life. From Thursday 23 May, the installation is back, ready to receive more dreams.

Before I Die invites you to reflect on your own life and consider what means the most to you and to others. Maybe you'll even be inspired: Do you want to publish your poetry? Dance on the table? Become a Youtuber?

Artist Candy Chang created the project in New Orleans after someone she was close to passed away. The day after the walls were erected, they were covered in wishes and dreams from people in the neighbourhood. Today, there are over 5000 walls in 78 countries and 36 languages.

"... the wall became an honest mess of the longing, fear, insecurity, gratitude, humor, pain, and grace you find in every community." – CANDY CHANG
