Cultural respect and creative boundaries

Where do the boundaries lie?

In a globalised world where cultural expressions are blended and exchanged across borders, complex questions arise about balancing the freedom of cultural exchange while respecting and preserving cultural identities and expressions.

With their performing arts project, Fargespill, who will host this conversation, is a driving force for cultural inclusion and understanding. Through their performances, they have repeatedly demonstrated how to celebrate diversity with both respect and creative freedom – and undoubtedly learned from a few mistakes along the way.

From the music's rhythm to stage costumes, roots, instruments, traditions and genres, the discussion panel will explore where the boundaries lie regarding cultural exchange. Some music genres seem to be common property, while other traditional cultural forms are more strictly regulated.

Where is the dividing line between what is protected and what is made for everyone? And how can we practice respectful curiosity when approaching different cultures?
