Rock me Baby

Extra performance

Performance type:

Music

Duration:

40 min

What do glam rockers and one-year-olds have in common? More than you think!

For example, they share a great fondness for bold colours, contrasts, glitter and catchy tunes.

Heavy riffs and a five-piece band dressed in their finest glam and poodle rock attire are perhaps rare ingredients in a performance aimed at the very youngest of audiences. Nonetheless, Rock me Baby by Øystein Elle and Karstein Solli excites both its core audience members as well as their older siblings and parents.

The performance offers a combination of concert, theatre, dance, play, absurd antics, and close contact with platform shoes and glittering effects. With visual expressions, references, and stylistic features from the world of rock, those between 0 and 6 years of age can experience a fun and exciting universe within an acceptable sound level and safe surroundings.

In the 1970s and 80s world of glam and poodle rock, gender boundaries became less clear, as artists often appeared with an androgynous expression. In Rock me Baby, the ensemble explores this liberation from the norms of what gender is.

Solli and Elle have created several well-received shows for young children that have been performed both in Norway and abroad. The spectacular costumes in Rock me Baby are designed by Kjell I. Nordström, also known as Baron von Bulldog and a costume designer for Maskorama on NRK.

'... the music [is played] without compromising the quality of the performance or the desired aesthetic expression, while simultaneously being adapted and rounded and wrapped in dance and play.' – PERISKOP
