Strike up a conversation about the city's future.
During the 2014 Bergen International Festival, everyone was invited to share their life stories in a booth at Festplassen. The collected narratives formed the basis for the citizen theater piece Once upon a human being, which became Folkets festspillscene's first production. Now, what has evolved into the Bergen Borgerscene (Bergen citizen theatre) has reached its tenth year with ten theatre productions under its belt. During this year's Festival, they would like to engage with people about the city they want to live in.
What values do you believe are important for a city? What would you wish to be different? Through conversations in the storytelling booth, the goal is to reach a shared vision for the city's future and understand what the citizens themselves consider a good society.
"We must create new dreams, new sets of values, new ways of thinking. We need to tell each other that we are part of a larger whole, and that's a good thing," says artistic director Vibeke Flesland Havre.
Passersby will be invited to have an informal chat over a cup of coffee outdoors. For those interested, the door is open to share their thoughts inside the storytelling booth, designed by video artist Jerome Picard.
