Nordic songs from heart and nature.

With song titles such as 'Flickan kom ifrån sin älsklings möte' (The Girl Came from Her Lover's Meeting), 'Du er min Afrodite' ('You Are My Aphrodite), and 'Nattergalen' ('The Nightingale'), the stage is set for an evening of romance, melancholy, and nature at Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg's home.

Pianist Håvard Gimse is known for championing Nordic works wherever he performs around the world and has a particular passion for the music of Geirr Tveitt. For this concert, he has invited Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling to Grieg’s own paradise. Together, they will perform songs by Grieg himself, Sibelius, and a selection of Swedish composers, including Amanda Maier-Röntgen, who met Edvard Grieg while studying in Leipzig. The programme also includes Gimse’s reconstructions of several of Tveitt’s works—music may not have been performed publicly since the composer’s lifetime.

Despite her global soloist career, this is Camilla Tilling’s first concert at the Bergen International Festival, and rumor has it that she was moved to tears at the thought of performing at Troldhaugen. Although the soprano is known for filling large opera roles and venues on both sides of the Atlantic, Troldsalen’s intimate concert hall will allow you to experience the Swedish star up close.
