A master meeting to make the world pause.
'After some concerts, you just want to leave words aside ... to be completely silent and hope that the world around can also quiet down for a moment, to absorb the afterglow of what just happened'. This is how a 2011 Festival concert was described when when cellist Truls Mørk and pianist Håvard Gimse won the Critics' Award.
Since then, there have been many master meetings between these two Norwegian stars, both on stage and in the studio. Truls Mørk has captivated audiences worldwide time and again and is considered one of the greatest cellists of all time. Known for his passionate and soulful interpretations, he has been honored with a Grammy as well as multiple Spellemann Awards. Håvard Gimse’s career also extends far beyond Norway, with performances at Carnegie Hall and Concertgebouw. The pianist has been awarded the Steinway Prize, the Grieg Prize, and the Sibelius Prize.
In 2022, Mørk and Gimse released an album that earned both the Diapason d’Or and Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice accolades, with BBC Music Magazine noting that the duo 'achieves an exemplary balance between cello and piano.' Their programme in Håkonshallen includes works by Sibelius, Grieg, Boulanger, Chausson, and Franck.
