The village party is back.
“I never thought folk music could become cool. And I’m so glad I was wrong,” wrote BT’s reviewer after last year’s Bergen debut of Tuvas blodklubb.
The club concept by Tuva Syvertsen – Hardanger fiddle player, front figure of Valkyrien Allstars, and host of blodklubben – is central to the folk music wave sweeping across Norway. The nights at Riksscenen – a Norwegian hub for folk music – in Oslo are packed every month, with young people throwing themselves into the traditional dance moves.
This purely folk music nightclub returns to Bergen in May, this time at Det Vestnorske Teateret. Guest performers will provide music throughout the night, and the audience can sing a song or hum a tune during folk music karaoke.
