Song cycle with a radical twist.
Winterreise by Franz Schubert is one of the most iconic works in classical song literature. The song cycle comprises 24 songs, originally written for tenor and piano, and tells the story of a young, spurned man journeying through a desolate landscape of snow, cold, and darkness. In 1993, composer Hans Zender created a 'composed interpretation' of the work for tenor and a small orchestra.
Norway’s National Youth Orchestra, Ungdomssymfonikerne, was founded in 1973 and features some of the country’s most talented music students. In this concert, you’ll hear the Ungdomssymfonikerne Chamber Orchestra, conducted by artistic director Johannes Gustavsson. The soloist is Swedish tenor Tobias Westman.
