Ævestaden
Innovative soundscapes and timeless harmonies.
The Swedish-Norwegian group Ævestaden consists of three multi-instrumentalists who studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Together, they perform both newly composed and traditional music on everything from old instruments such as the lyre, fiddle and jaw harp to modern electronic gadgets. This meeting between the traditional and the modern creates a soundscape one does not often hear.
Ævestaden's debut album Ingen Mere Gråter was released in 2021 and received great reviews by Klassekampen and other reviewers. Disharmoni.no described the album as a 'fascinating piece of music where old hymns and folk tunes are brought together with modern electronic crackling'. The group itself describes their works as 'monumental, but also achingly tender and low-key. Sources of inspiration include Sudan Dudan and Valkyrien Allstars.
