Pianist Christian Ihle Hadland is well known to audiences at the Bergen International Festival and performed many concerts during last year's festival. He has played with all the leading orchestras in Norway and had his international breakthrough in 2011 when he participated in BBC New Generation Artist, and was a soloist with the five BBC orchestras for two years. Ihle Hadland has been nominated for the Spellemann Award several times, and in 2014 he won the award for his release of Holberg Variations together with Erlend Skomsvoll and the chamber orchestra 1B1.
In addition to being sought after on prominent stages both at home and abroad, the pianist teaches at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo and is the Stavanger Chamber Music Festival's artistic director.
In Troldsalen, he will play The People United Will Never Be Defeated by the American composer Frederic Rzewski. The composition consists of 36 variations of the Chilean song El pueblo unido jamás será vencido! by Sergio Ortega and Quilapayún. This iconic piece became a symbol of the people's opposition to the Pinochet regime in Chile.
During this year's festival, Christian Ihle Hadland will also play together with violinist Johan Dalene.
