Hildegunn's Panda

Festivities
Music Family
Next event:
Playful jazz improvisation about possibly the world's cutest animal.

The panda is a peaceful animal that keeps mostly to itself far out in the Chinese forests where it chomps on bamboo all day long. The teddy bear in black and white has become an important symbol of conservation because, unfortunately, there are few pandas left in the world.

Hildegunn's Panda is a tribute to the Chinese bear. With the help of a trumpet, the ancient Scandinavian instrument “bukkehorn” made from the horn of a billy goat or ram, a saxophone and several other instruments, Hildegunn and her friends Olav and Niclas perform the story about the panda where both adults and children may learn something new. The music is full of contrasts and surprises with fun stretches and moments of tenderness.

The concert is an adaptation of trumpeter Hildegunn Øiseth’s commissioned piece Panda, which had its world premiere during the Trondheim Jazzfest last year. There, the audience "witnessed a real party of a concert; playful, intense and with a strong identity" and "a commissioned piece full of contrasts that lie somewhere in the landscape between world music, folk music and jazz", according to jazzinorge.no.

Hildegunn's Panda is made for the Mini-music concert series, which aims to contribute to several high-quality concerts for the youngest audience. Welcome to an intimate and calm concert experience in the Tent at Festplassen, where good music is in focus.
