Sparkling improvisations.
This year's Festival Artist in residence, violinist, and Hardanger fiddle player Ragnhild Hemsing will give a free concert at the Festival square along with jazz musicians Mathias Eick and Mats Eilertsen.
– There are significant similarities between the freedom found in folk music and the improvisation typical of jazz, says Hemsing.
In this meeting of musicians from different genres, classical works by Bull, Grieg, and Bach are on the programme, along with Lindeman's transcriptions of folk music from Valdres, hymns, and jazz improvisations.
These three artists are collaborating for the first time during this year's Bergen International Festival and will also perform a concert in Ole Bull's old house in Valestrand on Osterøy.
