Artist in residence brings Ole Bull’s Hardanger fiddle to his Osterøy summer paradise.

Ole Bull's Hardanger fiddle is finally to return to Valestrand, where the Norwegian violin virtuoso spent his childhood summers and later built the villa Bullahuset.

The Grihamar fiddle, also known as the Jordal fiddle, commissioned by Ole Bull in 1867, is said to be one of the most beautiful Hardanger fiddles in existence, with an uncommonly rich and powerful tone. Artist in residence Ragnhild Hemsing is the first woman to have custody of the instrument.

In this concert Ragnhild Hemsing is joined by jazz musicians Mathias Eick (trumpet) and Mats Eilertsen (double bass). In this encounter of musicians from different genres, classical works by Bull, Grieg and Bach are presented alongside folk music from Valdres collected by Lindeman, hymns and jazz improvisations.

This year's festival concert is the first time that these three artists appear together.
