With musicality in their genes.
For Lily and Sascha Maisky, music was a natural part of their upbringing. Their father, Mischa Maisky, has been one of the world's most sought-after cellists for several decades and often took his children on summer vacations to major classical music festivals.
Piano became the instrument of choice for older sister Lily, while Sascha, who is two years younger, chose the violin. They are active chamber musicians and often perform in trio format with their father. At this concert in Troldsalen, you can also experience the siblings as a duo.
The program features works from the Romantic era, signed by Clara Schumann, one of the few female composers from the 1800s, and Sergei Rachmaninoff in an arrangement by Mischa Maisky. The concert concludes with Edvard Grieg's third violin sonata in G minor.
'This programme embodies romanticism in a multitude of languages with each piece holding a special place in our hearts. Clara Schumann's Romances are at last finding their rightful place as the crown jewels of her oeuvre and Rachmaninov is a composer Lily and I both deeply adore. Grieg's 3rd sonata, a masterpiece, is the first romantic sonata I learned during my youth. Having never performed it as a duo, this is a long overdue and nostalgic pleasure. It is truly a tremendous honour to bring this music to life in a venue so closely bound to its creation,' says Sascha Maisky.
