Songs to what we cannot see.

This fall, the Norwegian-Sámi mezzo-soprano and opera singer Adrian Angelico found success in the stage production of Haugtussa at the Norwegian National Theatre, alongside pianist Marita Kjetland Rabben and the rest of the ensemble. The performance toured the German Ruhrtriennale festival and International Theater Amsterdam, and Angelico’s and Rabben’s roles were highlighted by many reviewers.

'Mezzo-soprano Adrian Angelico is phenomenal (…) with an overwhelming voice, impressive presence, and absolute charm,' wrote the Dutch theater platform Theaterkrant in its review of the performance.

Angelico and Rabben bring the concert version of the song cycle about Haugtussa to Håkonshallen. Haugtussa, whose real name is Veslemøy, can see what others cannot. The duo will also perform two songs by Franz Schubert before Angelico delves into one of Europe’s oldest vocal traditions – the Sámi joik. This rich musical tradition has strong ties to nature and roots in both religion and cultural and personal identity.

The programme includes Mari Boine’s Elle, known from the film The Kautokeino Rebellion, as well as the Sámi version of All is found from Disney’s Frozen universe. Angelico will also joik his sister, Pernille.
