Charismatic contralto.

The American opera singer Jasmin White is known for their deep voice and versatility. The contralto from Oregon is equally comfortable singing lieder and arias as they are performing jazz and reggae, and they are an ambassador for their Cherokee heritage.

With immense presence and a wide range in both genre and voice, White has established themselves as a crowd favorite, capable of evoking both goosebumps and misty eyes.

'The result was almost a given. For the kind of stage presence, excess, and charm that first-prize winner Jasmin White brought to the market square in Bjørvika on Saturday evening, would be hard to find elsewhere," wrote Klassisk musikk when the contralto won the Queen Sonja International Singing Competition in 2023.

This season is White’s first as part of the soloist ensemble at Volksoper Wien, after studying at the Opernstudio at Volksoper Wien. They are a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a Cherokee-TERO-certified Indigenous fine artist. This is White's Bergen International Festival debut, and in Håkonshallen, they will perform music by Berg, Brahms, and Schubert together with the Polish pianist Michał Biel.
