Festival debut with new and forgotten voices.
At Siljustøl, violinist Inga Våga Gaustad makes her debut concert at the Bergen International Festival, accompanied by the award-winning pianist Joachim Carr. She will premiere the solo version of Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin’s concerto Whirld, aptly titled Whirld Alone, marking their first collaboration.
'It’s an energetic, rhythmically intriguing piece with lots of cool built-in harmonies,' says Gaustad.
The violinist is based in both The Hague and Copenhagen, where she has been studying for the past two years at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Last autumn, she received the Finn Audun Oftedal Memorial Scholarship, awarded to the best Norwegian participant in the Princess Astrid International Music Competition, and last year she won the Dutch Kersjesprijs with the Animato Quartet.
The programme also includes works by Sæverud, Lutosławski, and a sonata by Swedish composer Amanda Maier-Röntgen.
'I really enjoy her repertoire and have played this piece a lot. It’s a shame that her music is so rarely performed, her violin melodies are stunning,' says Gaustad.
In recent years, the Festival programme has highlighted several 'forgotten voices' or composers which are performed less often, and in 2025 you can also hear works by Maier-Röntgen in a concert with Camilla Tilling and Håvard Gimse.
